Ricki-Lee
Chart-topping singer Ricki-Lee returns to the Australian Idol stage as host of the 2008 series, launching Sunday night on Network Ten.
Born in Auckland, and raised on the Gold Coast, Rick-Lee was a sports fanatic who wanted a career in Pro Netball until a knee injury put an end to that dream. After her vocal talents were ‘discovered’ by a family member who overheard her singing in her bedroom, she leapt into performing – gigging with live bands, and lead roles in school productions of
Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cats, Rent,
Grease. Very musical, she also plays tenor sax, flute, trumpet and played in school concerts.
Ricki-Lee came to national fame and popularity in 2004 as the 'favourite to win' the second series of
Australian Idol, and fans of the show around Australia were shocked when she was voted off mid-series.
She’s now the most successful Australian female artist to be launched by
Australian Idol, with her solo career achieving two Gold-selling albums and five Top 10 singles, including
Hell No!, Sunshine, and
Can’t Touch It.
Her stint with The Young Divas in 2006 included a #2 single and multi-platinum album, and she left in 2007 to concentrate on her solo career. Ricki-Lee has also been a hit on radio and television, including
Celebrity Circus and
It Takes Two, and has appeared in an acting cameo in Mick Molloy’s film
Boytown.
Ricki-Lee releases her new single
Wiggle It on 13th September, and joins the 2008 series of Australian Idol as host.
